Doors and windows live inside walls. You place them by moving over a wall, and from then on they slide along it, flip to either side of it and open and close in the model.
Place a door or a window
- In the Build tab, choose Door or Window.
- Move the cursor over a wall. The opening follows the wall and stays inside it.
- Press
Rto flip it to the other side of the wall before you place it. - Click to place it.
If the editor refuses a spot because something is in the way, hold Alt as you click to place it anyway.
Choose the type
Select a door. Under Type choose Door, Opening or Garage. Doors come as Hinged, Double, French, Folding, Pocket, Barn and Sliding; garage doors as Sectional, Roll-up and Tilt-up. Opening leaves a doorway with no door in it.
Select a window to choose between Window and Opening, then its window type: Fixed, Sliding, Casement, Awning, Single Hung, Double Hung, Bay, Bow and Louvered. Awning windows open up or down, and casement windows can be single or French.
Size and shape it
Width and Height are under Dimensions. Top Shape gives the head a square, rounded or arched outline, and Frame sets its thickness and depth. A window adds Grid, for its glazing bars, and Sill; a door adds Threshold, Handle and Hardware, such as a closer or a panic bar.
Flip it and open it
With a door or window selected, R flips it to the other side of its wall, the same as Flip Side in the inspector. E opens and closes it in the model; a plain opening and a fixed window have nothing to open. For a door, Swing sets the hinge side and whether it opens inward or outward.
Move it along the wall
Drag a selected door or window to slide it along its wall. Check doors and windows covers what to confirm before you trust an opening’s size.
